The Foreign Selection

Foreign Selection

A culture not only uses colours, music, ornamentation and construction styles to express itself but always develops its own distinctive script. The skilful adaptation of Latin characters so that they imitate the orthographic forms employed by other cultures is a popular way of adding a touch of other worlds to one’s own designs. Five typefaces that emulate very different cultural styles are included in our Foreign Selection. You can use these typefaces, supplied in the modern OpenType format, to transport your audience to far-away places and distant times.

Brief information on the fonts making up the selection:

 Linotype MhaiTaipe™ Face
Small circles and unusual letter forms give Linotype MhaiThaipe Face by Markus Remscheid an exotic feel. The font is evocative of a combination of Arabic calligraphy and Indian Sanskrit.

Sinah Sans Italic
The characters of Peter Huschka’s Sinah™ Sans Italic are all constructed around a central point and have the effect of ornamental Asian scripts.

Herculanum Outline
Herculanum® Outline by Adrian Frutiger takes the viewer back to the era of handwritten Roman capital letters, at a time of around 100 B.C.

Linotype Chineze Light
Peter Huschka has cleverly constructed the letters of his Linotype Chineze™ Light using elements that are reminiscent of the brush strokes of Chinese calligraphy.

Linotype Sansara Regular
Linotype Sansara™ Regular by Grégoire Poget is full of Eastern promise. For his typeface, Poget has adapted the system of linking individual letters with a line that is used in the Indian Devanagari alphabet.
